Are you Lost? You may be lost because you are:
  • alone and isolated from friends and family
  • moving away from the values you grew up with
  • not sure where you should go next in your life.

There are three parables in the Bible about being lost: the lost sheep, the old woman and the lost coin and the (prodigal) lost son.

There are three parables in the Bible about being lost: the lost sheep, the old woman and the lost coin and the (prodigal) lost son.
In the lost sheep parable, Jesus is talking to a crowd of people. “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” Jn. 15:4-7
In the lost coin parable, the talks about a woman who loses a coin. She searches the whole house for it. When she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ Jn. 15:9
And the parable of the lost son is likely the most famous of the parables, that of the Prodigal Son. One son took his inheritance early and squandered it on wild living. When he ran out of money he decided to return home and work for his father instead of living with hogs and starving. His father saw him coming home and decided to throw a party in celebration.
So you can see that if you have been lost and have decided to come back to God, back to your family after a long time away or back to your church home, they will REJOICE that you have returned!
What should you do to return to God's family?
  1. Ask for forgiveness – 1 John 1:9
  2. Pray for God to guide you to His plan for your life – Jeremiah 29:11
  3. Find a church home – (I even have a blog post to help you, How to find a church home)
  4. Start studying the Bible - There are many free online Bible studies or books you can buy.  We grow closer to God by studying His Word.

I leave you with Paul's wish for the Philippians, and my wish for you: “May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation, the right righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ, for this will bring much glory and praise to God.” Phil. 1:11
